Setting up a formal police structure was an evolution from informal, community-based and exclusive protection for royals, nobles, gentry and clergy.
The judiciary was set up to ignore biases, and the advantages of the rich, not their exploitation.
The bureaucracy was organized to operate continuously and efficiently based on a set of rules rather than instructions from rich taxpayers, suborners, bribers and fixers.
The intellectuals were meant to speak truth to power and expose lies – not advocate for a political party or tell people what to think.
If one or two of the aforementioned agencies fail, it’s manageable and delegable. If 3 or more fail, it’s a breeding ground for sin.
A rapist walks free because he’s a minor, or there’s tainted evidence and witnesses. Or released after an unjust prison term due to supposed rehabilitation, overzealous lower court judges, police misconduct and money + flamboyant lawyer.
The politician stands with the judiciary’s expertise. The judiciary stands with laws and procedures established by politicians. The police stand immune to repercussions, athleticism, integrity, public service, empathy and respect. The intellectuals stand for a perpetrator’s human rights and insult victims based on the latter’s identity.
At the end, the victim is rewarded with punishment.
Democracy does the opposite of protecting public interest, public will and resources. It promotes a large network that feeds off public funds, public ineptitude, public indifference and public irresponsibility.
Democracy, judiciary, police and other agencies are a fancy label for perpetual rich vs poor and influence vs insignificance.
A road, sewer, lake, forest gets abused by contractors – per their scope, timeline, and fee outlined in a contract. And further abused by absence of public civic sense.
A victim of land grab, robbery, assault, fraud is treated as a headache, an unwanted file. Families of murder victims are encouraged to accept “things happen, focus on your children’s future.”
Rich and the influenced are attractive to aforementioned agencies as motivation for good, illegal or advantageous work, and rewarded with perks, money and experiences.
A communist prefers an iPhone, a politician is least bothered about a public bus, hospital, etc and an intellectual loves to sow division.
Monarchy benefitted small numbers of rich, Democracy benefits large numbers of barons, PACs, trust funds, industrialists, contractors and electoral bonds.
Banks were meant to extend credit and provide services for all financial classes. Now it’s the opposite. The powerful get good deals, lower interest rates, the weak get exploitative terms.
The whole purpose of these institutions and ideologies were for the benefit of the common man, the public, the poor, the middle classes.
The Editorial Board has no hope that these will change anytime soon. Unlike previous times or Singapore before Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, society is now more relaxed, settled, tolerant and addicted to doomscrolling.
In continuation of our previous article, all institutions and organizations created to represent collective will, equality and accountability do not exist for these purposes.
